چکیده

We investigate the applicability of spanners as shared structures that o er both low cost and low delay for broadcast and multicast. A k-spanner has the potential to o er lower delay than shared trees because it limits the distance between any two nodes in the network to a multiplicative factor k of the shortest-path distance. Using simulation over random topologies, we compare k-spanners to single-source minimum-distance spanning trees and show that a k-spanner can have similar cost and lower delay. We illustrate that by varying the value of k a spanner can be made to gradually favor cost over delay. These results indicate that it is feasible to build a multicast routing protocol using spanners as a shared communication structure.

Construction of Minimum-Weight Spanners

Spanners are sparse subgraphs that preserve distances up to a given factor in the underlying graph. Recently spanners have found important practical applications in metric space searching and message distribution in networks. These applications use some variant of the socalled greedy algorithm for constructing the spanner — an algorithm that mimics Kruskal’s minimum spanning tree algorithm. Gre...

Energy-Aware Probabilistic Epidemic Forwarding Method in Heterogeneous Delay Tolerant Networks

Due to the increasing use of wireless communications, infrastructure-less networks such as Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) should be highly considered. DTN is most suitable where there is an intermittent connection between communicating nodes such as wireless mobile ad hoc network nodes. In general, a message sending node in DTN copies the message and transmits it to nodes which it encounters. A...

Design an Efficient Community-based Message Forwarding Method in Mobile Social Networks

Mobile social networks (MSNs) are a special type of Delay tolerant networks (DTNs) in which mobile devices communicate opportunistically to each other. One of the most challenging issues in Mobile Social Networks (MSNs) is to design an efficient message forwarding scheme that has a high performance in terms of delivery ratio, latency and communication cost. There are two different approaches fo...

Rateless Coding over Wireless Relay Networks Using Amplify/Decode and Forward Relays

In this paper two different rateless transmissionschemes are developed. In the proposed scheme, relay node candecode and forward the message to the destination if they areable to decode it, or amplify and forward the message to thedestination. Based on the analysis and simulation resultsprovided in this paper, the proposed method has bettertransmission time than the scheme which only the relay ...

Self-Stabilizing Algorithm for Geometric Spanner Construction in a Wireless Sensor Network

We present a distributed algorithm for creation of geometric spanners in a wireless sensor network. Given any connected network, we show that the algorithm terminates inO(1) time, irrespective of network size. Our algorithm uses an underlying clustering algorithm as a foundation for creating spanners and only relies on the periodic heartbeat messages associated with cluster maintenance for the ...
